How to treat wooden furniture with Soapa
Simple steps for scrubbing pine furniture with soap
What we did was scrub it with soap – Hard soap, lukewarm water, a root brush from IrisHantverk, and then we worked up a lather. As you can see, the foam is denser rather than being made up of light soap bubbles. This is because the soap is super-fatted, which is also what replenishes the wood’s oils and gives it a pleasant surface.
This chest of drawers is a simple pine dresser from IKEA . It was assembled from a flat pack and put into use immediately, without any surface treatment whatsoever. As a result, dirt, makeup, soap, and dust became stuck and worked their way into the wood. The surface was also not completely smooth-sanded but somewhat rough, which made it rather difficult to wipe clean.
See the first small, tilted image – here you can see scratches and marks that could not be wiped off.
The middle image shows the chest of drawers as it looked originally – rather dull.
The result after scrubbing with soap
The last image shows the chest of drawers after scrubbing with soap!
It is a little difficult to see in the picture, but the surface becomes completely different. It does not attract dirt in the same way and is significantly easier to wipe clean. The surface treatment can be repeated several times for better results. Once every six months is often recommended for soap-scrubbed wooden floors, and we consider that a suitable recommendation here as well. It naturally depends on how the furniture is used. This particular piece of furniture is in a bathroom in a family with children and is used daily and frequently. Ointments, skin cream, and toothpaste are stored here, meaning it is a functional everyday item.
