How to clean the toilet with soap – step by step

What do you need to clean the toilet naturally?

Only bathroom soap and a toilet brush – no harsh chemicals.

Step 1: Spray soap into the toilet

Remove the cap, turn the bottle upside down and spray the soap onto the inside of the toilet.

Step 2: Scrub with a brush

Use the toilet brush to scrub and create a layer of soap foam over the entire porcelain surface. Also scrub the bottom bend.

Step 3: Let the soap work

Leave it to work for 10–15 minutes, or preferably longer if you have time to wait.

Step 4: Scrub again

Then brush again with the toilet brush, and you will see that the dirt now comes off.

Step 5: Flush

Flush, and your toilet will be clean and fresh.

Tips for better results and maintenance

How do I keep the toilet clean every week?

If you want to keep your toilet clean and looking good, try repeating this and making it part of your weekly routine. It will make cleaning easier, as dirt will not have time to settle in the same way it does when you wait longer.

How do I clean old and heavily soiled porcelain?

Perhaps you have moved into a home where the previous owners did not manage to keep everything completely clean? Or cleaning has been neglected for another reason. In that case, discolouration in the bend can be difficult to remove. If so, repeat the first steps in the evening before going to bed – leave the soap in the toilet overnight, and the next morning you can easily scrub away the dirt and discolouration with the toilet brush.

What should I do about discolouration from metals?

If discolouration remains, it is probably not biological or grease-related, but caused by metal (green discolouration, for example, comes from copper pipes). You can easily remove it with acetic acid or vinegar. In the same way, let the vinegar work for a while before scrubbing with the toilet brush.

How soap works in the bathroom – some simple cleaning chemistry

Dirt in the bathroom is usually biological, meaning it comes from the people who live here, animals or plants. To clean this type of dirt, you need a product with a high pH value, such as Soapa. Dirt in bathrooms can also be greasy. You may remember your chemistry teacher’s words?

Like dissolves like

For greasy dirt, a fatty soap therefore works best – Soapa is superfatted, meaning it contains an excess of fat while also having a high pH value, making it particularly effective in the bathroom.

When should I use vinegar instead?

Metals and corrosion, on the other hand, are most easily removed with something that has a low pH value. Vinegar works excellently! With this simple basic chemistry, you can handle all bathroom cleaning without harsh and unnecessary chemicals.

Vinegar for the toilet

If you have hard water and limescale problems, it can be a good idea to occasionally put a little vinegar in the toilet, let it sit for a while, then scrub around with the toilet brush and flush.

What does the bathroom soap contain?

The bottle contains 0.5 L of liquid soap. You will notice that the soap is thicker and more viscous than you may be used to; this is because it is more concentrated, so 0.5 L lasts a very long time. A superfatted soap like this is excellent for cleaning the bathroom, where dirt is greasy or consists of soap or skin residue. The bathroom soap also prevents the regrowth of fungus and mould in bathrooms and shower areas.

How do I use it for mopping?

Dosage when diluting in water for wet mopping: 2–6 tbsp per 10 litres of warm water.

Wood and stone also benefit greatly from being re-oiled with soap. For untreated wood, use more soap. This will give the surface a soft, warm and treated finish.

For “dead materials” such as plastic or vinyl flooring, use less soap and warmer water. Do not leave soap residue on wet floors, as this can cause slipping. For plastic and other non-natural materials, use a degreasing dish detergent every fourth wet mopping to remove any excess grease from the soap.
