Tough on limescale. Kind to the environment

Västerbottenssåpa’s limescale remover dissolves limescale deposits without running off the surface. The gel formula stays where it is needed, giving the limescale time to loosen. Apply, leave to work, and rinse off. For anyone who wants to remove limescale from shower walls, tiles, taps, and other surfaces without harsh chemicals or strong odors.

About the Product

Limescale remover that eliminates stubborn limescale deposits.
Tired of stubborn limescale deposits that refuse to come off, no matter what you use? Discover how our eco-friendly limescale remover in gel form easily removes limescale!

Our limescale remover is an eco-friendly gel that is applied to surfaces stained by limescale.

Use a scouring sponge or cloth for this. If there is a lot of limescale on the surface, leave the gel to work for 15 to 20 minutes, then scrub clean with an eco-fibre cloth, brush, or scouring sponge. The gel has a low pH, unlike soap, which has a high pH. The low pH helps dissolve limescale and rust, so you can easily clean it away.

✔️ Cleans and removes limescale deposits
✔️ Does not run off
✔️ Effective against rust

Limescale deposits come from tap water and are therefore a recurring problem in areas with hard water. It is easier to keep limescale at bay if you clean regularly. Limescale that is left for a long time can be very difficult to remove and may even damage sensitive materials – regular cleaning helps prevent this.

If you are unsure whether the surface you want to clean can withstand acidic cleaning products, you should check this first. For example, marble and other calcareous stone should not be cleaned with acidic products.

What sets Västerbottenssåpa’s limescale remover apart from other limescale removal products?

Our limescale remover contains no corrosive or toxic substances. Instead, it is in gel form, which means it can be applied to surfaces such as a shower wall without running off, and effectively dissolves limescale deposits. We do not use any harsh chemicals such as phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, formic acid, or substances such as benzenesulfonic acid, Candida bombicola, or limonene in our product.

Does it really work?

Yes, it actually does. To really prove it, we sent our limescale remover to an independent testing laboratory. The test confirmed that the product removes a full 98% of limescale, making it 10 percentage points more effective than the next-best product in the same test. Read more about the test here.

Use the limescale remover as follows

Frequently asked questions & answers

How does Västerbottenssåpa’s limescale remover differ from other chemical alternatives?

The biggest difference is that our limescale remover has a gel consistency, allowing it to stay in place and work on vertical surfaces without running off. Unlike many conventional products, it contains no harmful chemicals such as phosphoric acid or other strong, corrosive acids.

Is Västerbottenssåpa’s limescale-removing gel effective in areas with very hard water?

Yes, our limescale-removing gel is effective even in areas with very hard water. In regions where the water has a high hardness level, limescale deposits form more quickly, which means surfaces need to be cleaned more regularly.

Is the limescale remover safe to use on all surfaces?

No, it should not be used on all surfaces. Since the product is acidic and has a low pH value, it can damage materials that are sensitive to acid.

Surfaces you should avoid:

  • Natural stone: Do not use the product on marble, limestone, or other calcareous stone materials, as the acid will etch and damage the surface.
  • Wood: Avoid using the product on wooden surfaces.
  • Sensitive metals: Be cautious with certain types of metal if the manufacturer advises against acidic cleaning products.

Is limescale remover safe to use on frosted glass?

Frosted glass has a more porous and matte surface than regular clear glass, making it more sensitive to cleaning products. You should therefore always test the product on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Can I use limescale remover on black faucets without damaging them?

Yes, it can be used on black faucets, but you should be careful because their finish is often more sensitive than traditional chrome. Always test it on an inconspicuous part of the faucet first to ensure that the surface can withstand the product.

Can I use limescale remover on the tiles and grout in the shower/bathroom?

Yes, limescale remover can be used on tiles and grout, but because grout is porous, it requires extra care. The product’s low pH may affect the grout if it is left on for too long.

How to clean tiles and grout:

  • Applying to tiles: Apply the product to the affected areas and leave it to work for 5–10 minutes. Scrub with a soft sponge or brush and rinse thoroughly.
  • Handling grout: Work more quickly when cleaning grout. Never let the product dry on the surface, as its acidic composition may weaken porous grout over time.
  • Rinsing afterward: Always rinse with plenty of water immediately after treatment to neutralize the surface.

Does limescale remover work on stubborn limescale deposits?

Yes, our limescale remover dissolves stubborn limescale deposits. In cases of heavy limescale buildup, the treatment may need to be repeated or left to work for a longer time to completely break down the minerals.

Is limescale remover effective on grout?

Limescale remover dissolves limescale on grout, but because the product has a low pH, it can affect and damage sensitive or porous surfaces if used too often or left on for too long.

How to protect grout during cleaning:

  • Test first: Apply the product to a small, inconspicuous area before treating larger areas to see how the material reacts.
  • Limit the contact time: Avoid leaving the product on the grout for too long. Work methodically and rinse with water as soon as the limescale has dissolved.
  • Use soft tools: Use a soft cloth or sponge when scrubbing to avoid mechanically wearing down the grout.

Is it safe to use the limescale remover in food-preparation areas, such as kitchen surfaces?

Yes. The limescale remover can be used on kitchen surfaces because it does not contain harmful or hazardous substances. However, no cleaning products should come into direct contact with food, so it is important to handle the product with the same care as, for example, dishwashing liquid.

Can I use the product in the dishwasher or washing machine?

No, it is not recommended.

Can I use descaler in my coffee maker?

No. The product should not be used to clean the machine’s internal parts or run through the coffee maker. It contains surfactants that create foam like dish soap, which is not suitable for the inside of the machine.

Uses for coffee makers:

  • External surfaces: You can use the descaling agent to clean limescale stains from the outside of the coffee maker, its buttons, and base plate.
  • Glass carafe: The product can be used to dissolve limescale deposits in the glass carafe, provided it is rinsed very thoroughly afterward.
  • Internal descaling: To descale the brewing system itself, we recommend using a product specifically intended for internal systems that does not produce foam.

Is it safe to use limescale remover in the oven or air fryer?

No. Since the limescale remover is acidic, it can damage surfaces and mechanisms in these appliances, especially when they are exposed to heat.

The best option for cleaning ovens and air fryers is to use products that are specifically designed for these surfaces and are safe to use. These surfaces are often soiled by grease and food residue—which is easier to remove with soap, which is effective against both grease and dirt from plants and animals.

Can I use the product outdoors, for example on stone paving?

No. Natural stone, especially limestone-rich materials, is sensitive to acidic cleaning products and should not be cleaned with them. Since the product has a low pH, it may cause permanent etching damage to the stone.

Is there a risk that the product will bleach or damage colors?

Yes. The product contains citric acid and should not be used on sensitive painted surfaces, as the acid may affect the color pigments or dissolve the surface coating.

How much product do I need to use each time?

The dosage depends on the size of the surface and how heavy the deposits are. A small amount often goes a long way thanks to the product’s concentrated formula.

How long does it take for the limescale remover to start working?

The limescale remover starts working immediately upon contact with the surface. For light limescale stains, you can rinse it off almost immediately, while ingrained limescale needs 15–20 minutes to dissolve completely.

What should I do if the product doesn’t remove all the limescale on the first attempt?

In cases of heavy limescale buildup, the treatment may need to be repeated. If the minerals have accumulated over a long period, the acid may not always have time to break down the entire layer during the first application.

Does limescale remover work for removing rust stains?

Yes, the limescale remover can be used to remove rust stains. Since it contains citric acid, it helps dissolve oxidized iron (rust) and other mineral deposits that have formed on surfaces exposed to moisture.

Things to consider when removing rust:

  • Test first: Always apply it to a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure that the material is not damaged by the acid.
  • Contact time: For rust stains, the product may need to sit for a few minutes before the surface is scrubbed with a sponge or brush.
  • Sensitive materials: If the rust stain is on a very sensitive material or is deeply embedded in the substrate, consult the material manufacturer before treatment.
  • Rinse thoroughly: Be sure to rinse away all product residue with clean water afterward.

Do I need to rinse the surfaces after use?

Yes, we recommend rinsing the surfaces after use.

Do I need to use gloves or other protective equipment?

No, but if you have large areas to clean or plan to clean for a longer period, it may be a good idea to wear gloves. The product is acidic and does not contain any fat, so the effect is not the same as when cleaning with soap and ending up with soft, smooth hands.

How often do I need to use the product to prevent limescale buildup?

When you see white, dull spots on the surfaces, it’s time to clean.

What should I do if I get the product on my skin or in my eyes?

Rinse thoroughly with water.

Do you have a refill for the limescale-removing gel?

No, we do not make refills for our limescale-removing gel because gel products require a carefully balanced formula to maintain the right consistency when diluted with water. Getting a gel to retain its stability and effectiveness when mixed is more technically challenging than with a soap spray, which has a thinner formula and is easier to adjust. Therefore, we have chosen not to offer refills for our limescale-removing gel, to ensure that the product works optimally every time.

Is the limescale remover environmentally friendly?

Yes, all our products are eco-friendly!
