How do you save a rusty cast-iron pot?
You can save a rusty cast-iron pot with the help of a brass brush, soap, eco-fiber cloth, and cooking oil. By carefully cleaning and oiling the pot, then heating it on the stovetop, it will regain its shine and look like new again.
Here’s how to do it – step by step:
1. Remove the rust
Use a brass brush, water, and soap to scrub away the rust without damaging the cast iron.
2. Clean the pot thoroughly
Wash the pot several times with soap, a dish brush, and an eco-fiber cloth until the water runs clear and is free of rust particles.
3. Apply cooking oil
When the pot is dry, oil both the inside and outside with cooking oil. Work the oil in with paper towels.
4. Heat the pot on the stovetop
Heat the pot on the stovetop until it develops a deep black color – this provides both protection and a beautiful finish.
