To scrub carpets with soap§
Sara IdenforsLast weekend, we finally had the chance to scrub our rugs in the lovely spring weather. With an enamel bucket from Kockums and solid VästerbottensSåpa on the jetty, we used our eco-friendly scrubbing brush to scrub our blue rag rugs.

Scrubbing rugs with soap
Last weekend, the sun came out, and we quickly headed out to the jetty to scrub the rugs. Lovely spring air and a fresh breeze, but warm water in the bucket made it a truly enjoyable moment.
We chose to use the solid soap because it is practical to use with an ordinary panel scrubbing brush. A dab of soap is much easier to distribute over a rug than liquid soap, which is absorbed into the material immediately. With the solid version, it is easy to add the right amount of water and soap to create a suitably thick lather.
We scrubbed both sides of the rugs (as described above) with lukewarm water, a brush, and solid VästerbottensSåpa, then rinsed them with water and hung them out to dry in the spring breeze. The result was clean rugs with a wonderful juniper scent.

The rug in the picture was, by coincidence, woven by our aunt Sonja Winther, whose mother was Fredrika Helmersson, our great-grandmother who had the original recipe for the soap. This is a little family story signed by the Helmersson family that simply continues, generation after generation.

Questions and Answers
- Why did we choose to use solid Soapa instead of liquid soap to scrub the rugs?
We chose the solid soap because it is easier to distribute evenly over the rug using a regular panel scrub brush. The liquid version tends to soak into the material immediately.
- How did we clean the rugs after using soap and a scrub brush?
We scrubbed both sides of the rugs with lukewarm water and solid Soapa before rinsing them with clean water and hanging them to dry in the spring breeze.
- What is the story behind the rug used during the cleaning?
The rug in the picture was woven by our aunt Sonja Winther, whose mother was Fredrika Helmersson, who had the original recipe for the soap. It is part of the family history that continues to be passed down through the generations.
