Hob

Sara Idenfors

In this blog post, we show you how to easily clean your hob without unnecessary and harsh chemicals.

Should you use a scraper or a sugar cube? Should you buy strong cleaning products or not?
Here we show you a simple and effective method.

We also show you how to prevent the hob or induction hob from becoming cloudy after cleaning. Stains on ceramic glass hobs can be tricky to deal with, but with the right knowledge, you can solve the problem without any difficulty.
The best-tested hob cleaner is simply natural.

You will need

  • An overfatted soap
  • Eco-fibre cloth
  • Baking soda
  • Hob scraper
  • Cloth
  • Polishing cloth—microfibre cloth
  • White vinegar or vinegar

With these simple steps, you can avoid stains on ceramic glass and induction hobs, regardless of whether the brand is Cylinda, Ikea, or something else entirely.

Do this:

  1. Start by dampening the microfibre cloth, then clean the hob with soap and the microfibre cloth.
Work over the entire hob and leave it for a minute or so; scrub with the eco-fibre cloth—it won’t scratch the hob.
  2. Wipe with a cloth and check whether any stains remain.
  3. Do you still have stains? Sprinkle a little baking soda on the hob, dampen the eco-fibre cloth, and work on the stain.
  4. Is it completely hopelessly burnt on? Then use the hob scraper. Scrape lightly with even strokes. Do NOT press too hard, and don’t use the scraper’s corners. Several light strokes are the solution. Then treat the stain with the baking soda again.
  5. Remove with a damp cloth.
  6. Now polish the hob with a soft cloth, preferably a microfibre cloth.
  7. To remove the “cloudiness” and make the hob shiny and beautiful, put a little vinegar or white vinegar on the cloth.

Why is it so important to have a clean hob?

-Well, a dirty hob transfers dirt to the bottoms of your pots, which of course then gets transferred back to the hob the next time you place them on it. A vicious cycle, quite simply. A clean hob and clean pots and pans are also much more efficient because they heat up faster on the stove. With dirt between them, the stove works much less efficiently. So, it’s also a small but important thing you can do for the environment.

The sugar cube, then?
It’s really great. Feel free to use a sugar cube instead of a scraper if you like, but the sugar itself has no effect. It’s the mechanical scraping that loosens the dirt. The fact that it takes a little time and that you have to scrub a bit is exactly what makes the sugar cube work so well … you could just as well use an eco-fibre cloth.

Watch the video below—we show you how to do it!
