How to clean with baking soda

Laundry room
  1. Add ½ dl of baking soda to your whites; baking soda has a natural bleaching effect.
  2. Has the washing machine and tumble dryer turned yellow? Mix one part baking soda with four parts warm water, spread the mixture evenly over the machines, leave it for 10 minutes, then wipe it off.
  3. White socks or smelly workout clothes: soak them in water with baking soda for 1 hour before washing them in the machine.
  4. Sweat stains or a yellowed collar. Mix 2–3 tbsp of baking soda, ½ dl of white vinegar, and a little lemon juice. Mix everything and treat the stain. Leave it for at least 30 minutes before washing according to the care instructions, and the stains will disappear.
  5. Clean the washing machine drum with baking soda; it neutralizes odors and cleans. Mix ½ dl of baking soda with a little warm water to make a paste. Apply it with a scouring sponge and wipe the inside of the machine, including the rubber seals. Add any remaining paste and run the machine on its fastest program.
  6. You can also clean the iron with baking soda. Put water and baking soda on a sponge or cloth and clean the surface. Use a cotton swab to clean the steam holes. Wipe clean.
  7. Tobacco smoke in clothes. Soak the garments in water with a little baking soda, then wash according to the care instructions and the tobacco smell will disappear.
  8. Chlorine smell that won't come out of swimwear? Do as above.
  9. Urine on a mattress. Blot up as much as possible with a towel, pressing against the stain. Then sprinkle with baking soda and wait 30 minutes. Vacuum or brush up the baking soda and repeat.

Everything you need to remove tough stains

Outdoors
  1. White plastic furniture can be freshened up with a mixture of baking soda, lemon, vinegar, and a little warm water. Apply it, leave it in the sun for at least 30 minutes, and then wipe it off. This works best if you first scrub the furniture clean with soap and water.
  2. Pet blankets can develop a bad smell over time. Soak them in baking soda and water before washing them in the machine according to the care instructions, and the smell will disappear.
  3. Cat urine: Cover it with baking soda, leave it to work, and then clean it. This works for both stains and the litter box itself.
  4. Guinea pigs and hamsters: clean their belongings with baking soda and water to neutralize bad odors.
  5. Fishing trips are enjoyable, but if you catch fish, gloves, the fishing bag, jacket, and various other items may develop a distinct fishy smell. Neutralize it by cleaning them with baking soda and water.
The bathroom
  1. Smelly and grimy hairbrushes: clean them with soap and water, then place them in a solution of baking soda and warm water to remove any remaining bad odor.
  2. If dirt is stuck to bathroom ceramics and you feel that an abrasive cleaning cream is needed, choose soap and baking soda instead. Both are alkaline, and the baking soda provides the abrasive effect.
  3. Shower curtains easily become grimy. Clean off greasy dirt with soap and a brush, then soak them in baking soda and water before washing according to the care instructions. Pay extra attention to the seams at the bottom and top, where dirt tends to collect.

Everything you need for effective and eco-friendly cleaning of your home

Other tips
  1. Blocked sink. Pour 0.5 dl of baking soda down the drain, add a little vinegar, and then a saucepan of boiling water. The bubbles that form will dissolve the blockage in an eco-friendly way.
  2. Winter and summer storage of clothes in garment bags. To prevent a musty basement smell, pour a little baking soda into the bottom of the garment bag.
