To wash

Sara Idenfors

We have launched a new product: a laundry detergent that we have worked on for a long time.
In addition to soap, our laundry detergent contains other surfactants, which are needed to achieve clean results with the help of a modern washing machine. Of course, you can still wash clothes using a washboard, tub, and soap, but very few of us are willing to do that today ;)

That is why our laundry detergent contains soap and other surfactants! It also contains an ingredient that makes the detergent a little thicker and helps remove dirt with the wash water. It looks very chemical and complicated in the ingredients list, but it is actually just wood from Finnish forests that has been thinned and processed into a cellulose powder. This makes our laundry detergent a little more viscous and better at carrying away dirt. We have one scented version—Citrus—and one without added fragrance, so you can choose how you want it.

The laundry detergent is active from 30°C and above, and you should always follow the care instructions in your garments AND use common sense. Your body temperature is 37°C; when you rinse a dishcloth, for example, you probably use water that is a little warmer than 37°C, and when you wash dishes, you probably use slightly warmer water as well. Look at the stain and your garment: is it reasonable to expect this to wash out at 30°C, or might you need to increase the temperature? This requires a little thought.

Our laundry detergent contains no bleach and no enzymes, so it will not damage clothes with a small amount of wool, bleach them, or add any optical brighteners. Bleaching wears down the fibers in a garment and shortens its lifespan. Instead, wash whites with whites only, pre-treat stains, and use two teaspoons of baking soda if you need some bleaching power for your white laundry.

What about lowering the temperature for the sake of the environment? It is true that saving energy is good for the environment, but do not save so much energy that your laundry does not get clean or you end up buying new clothes because your old ones do not get clean at 20°C or 30°C. By pre-treating stains and possibly increasing the temperature slightly, you can actually extend the life of your garments—and that is how we help the environment, by not constantly buying new ones!

 Questions and answers

1. What advantages does your laundry detergent have compared with traditional soap?

Our laundry detergent combines soap with other surfactants, making it more effective in modern washing machines. It also contains cellulose powder, which helps carry away dirt.

2. Can your laundry detergent be used on delicate fabrics?

Yes. Since our laundry detergent contains no bleach or enzymes, it is gentle on delicate fabrics such as wool blends and does not bleach clothes.

3. How does the laundry detergent affect the environment?

By using gentle surfactants and cellulose powder from thinned Finnish forests, as well as encouraging stain pre-treatment and the use of appropriate washing temperatures, our laundry detergent helps reduce the need to buy new clothes, thereby helping protect the environment.

4. What temperatures are suitable for using your laundry detergent?

The laundry detergent is active from 30 degrees and above. It is important to follow the care instructions in the garments and use common sense when deciding whether a stain can be washed out at a lower temperature or whether a higher temperature is needed.
