Wash your cap correctly—it will retain its shape and color
Sara IdenforsCaps quickly collect sweat and dirt, especially around the sweatband. At the same time, they are sensitive to improper washing. With the right method, however, you can get the cap clean without losing its shape.
Start by checking what material the cap is made of
- Caps made of cotton or polyester can usually withstand gentle hand washing
-Wool caps and older caps should be cleaned very carefully, preferably only where needed
- Caps with a stiff brim, especially older models, should not be machine-washed
- Option 1 should always be a garment-care spray and a sponge with lukewarm water. This helps the cap last longer. Only wash it in another way when this option is no longer reasonably usable.
How to clean your cap by hand
Use a basin of lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild cleaning product, such as soft soap or all-purpose detergent. Place the cap in the water and leave it to soak for 10–15 minutes. Then gently work on the sweatband and stains with your fingers or a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly in cold water until all residue is gone.

Drying – essential for the result
After washing, gently press the cap to remove excess water without wringing it. Shape it while it is still damp and let it air-dry. A good trick is to place the cap over a bowl or rolled-up towel so that it keeps its shape while drying. Avoid both tumble dryers and strong sunlight, which can ruin the fit and color.
If sweat stains remain
A simple solution is to work a little soapy water directly into the sweatband, let it sit for a while, and then rinse it thoroughly.
Dishwasher – yes or no?
It is best to avoid it. High heat and harsh cleaning agents can damage the fabric, glue, and screen. The dishwasher is also designed for dishes, glassware, and cutlery—not sweaty clothes.
Things to remember
Hand-washing with lukewarm water and a mild detergent gives the best results. Air-drying in the correct shape is essential, while machine washing and tumble drying should be avoided entirely.
