The question should probably be what green soap was used for. Green soap is no longer manufactured in Sweden. Production stopped when hemp cultivation was banned in Sweden. Since then, demand has remained for the green soap people remember from the past. That is why yellow soap has been dyed green and sold as green soap (it is green, after all …), but that is not what we mean by green soap.
The green soap was rich and good-quality and was used for almost everything around the home, from washing hands to washing rugs and scrubbing floors. It is even said to have been a common “home remedy” for curing nail-biting.
