Which soap should be used for decking, wooden decking, patios, patio floors, and outdoor areas?

Which soap should you use for decking, wooden decks, patios, patio floors, and outdoor areas?

To clean and care for wood on decks, decking, and patios at the same time, a superfat soap is recommended—preferably one based on linseed oil or rapeseed oil. Superfat soaps contain an excess of fat that not only cleans but also gives the wood a treating effect, similar to traditional soap scrubbing of old wooden floors.

Regular green or yellow soap works for cleaning, but to achieve a protective, soft, and dirt-repellent surface, it is important to choose a naturally superfat soap. Soapa is made from Swedish rapeseed oil and is a particularly good choice for all natural materials such as wood. It gives the wood a smooth surface, reduces staining, and is a climate-smart alternative made using circular production.

Do you want both cleaning and treatment in one? Choose an superfat deck soap such as Soapa.

The next common question is: How much soap is needed?

- For cleaning: Mix 1 dl of soap with 10 liters of hot water.
- For treatment: Mix 1 liter of soap with 10 liters of cold water.
- 1 liter of soap is enough for approximately 30 m²

Note that a soft, porous wood such as pine requires more soap, while a hard wood such as teak or larch requires less.

The amount needed also depends on the condition of the wood. Wood with many small cracks and dry wood require more soap than new pressure-treated wood.

Here's how:

1. Sweep away gravel and loose dust.

2. Scrub away dirt and stains with hot water, scrub brush and deck soap.

3. Then scrub the entire surface with cold water and plenty of deck soap.

4. Allow it to dry and repeat as needed. More applications produce a more waxed and smoother surface.
